Fun! Fun! Fun! Notch Family Connect provides a range of free, local and fun family sessions during each school holidays. With activities ranging from tie dye, sport, craft, cooking and garden club in the mix, what’s not to love about holidays? Parents will love not having to drive to town for free activities.
This year, we have a boost via a Thriving Communities Grant from Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, so will be offering more things across more locations. Look out for our travelling tour bus coming to a beach or park near you! All details and bookings via the Notch Facebook group.
An idea borne out of recycling food waste, our regular cook-ups now attract volunteers to help stock the freezer with nutritious meals. These meals are distributed to those in need for free via our Emergency Relief Program.
Supported monthly by our friends from At Work Australia, this community kitchen also offers a volunteering opportunity for anyone who loves to cook or wants to learn. You will be supported and supervised, so there’s no pressure. You can register your interest by contacting the centre.
Northern Beaches High School: Certificate I in Active Volunteering. Community networks in action, the youth from our local high school also support our Community Kitchen by doing their own cook-ups at school and donating the frozen meals they create to boost our available supply of food for clients in need.
Details of each Community Kitchen are published via our social media pages.
A great way to get teens work ready or show them the value of giving back, our teen volunteer program ‘M.A.D. Vollies’ occurs every school holidays, in line with our Notch Family Connect programs.
M.A.D. stands for Making A Difference, which is what you’ll do by helping us deliver our (very fun!) school holiday programs.
In return, we’ll offer to provide a work reference to help you land a job. The benefits (apart from not being bored) are that you’ll learn important work and life skills like working as a team, following direction and getting in to get the job done. Plus volunteering is shown to be great for your mental health. Helping others is a great way to help yourself. Just register your interest by contacting the centre.
Are you a group, service provider or organisation servicing the Northern Beaches area?
Why not join the conversation at our regular Northern Beaches Network catch-ups?
Creating cross-sector collaboration and opportunities to help each other and our community, these quarterly meetings are a great way to network with others working in the same space. Follow our social media for updates on when and where the next network meeting will be and bring your ideas, business cards and flyers to share what’s happening in your space.
Our friendly team aim to create a place for everybody. As the local hub of connection based in Deeragun, Townsville, Notch host visiting service providers and provide rooms for hire at discounted rates for community and social groups.
